Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail, Multi-use trail in College Park, United States.
The Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail is a multi-use path stretching about 4 kilometers through residential areas between College Park, Riverdale Park, and Hyattsville. The elevated paved route runs parallel to the former streetcar line and crosses several neighborhood streets while connecting various parks and community centers.
The path follows the route of a streetcar line that connected Washington DC with Laurel from 1899 to 1958. After the streetcar service ended, the corridor was later converted into a public recreational trail for local communities.
The path connects three communities and serves as a meeting point where neighbors jog, walk, or cycle together regularly. Residents from surrounding neighborhoods use the route year-round for daily errands or simply to spend time outdoors.
The trail is accessible from multiple points along Rhode Island Avenue and is suitable for walkers, cyclists, and people with mild mobility limitations. Signage at various access points helps users find the correct direction and understand the route layout.
Mature walnut and maple trees line the route, providing dense shade and cooling on hot days as the trail winds through the neighborhoods. These large trees have grown for decades and define the character and feel of the path.
