Connecticut Governor's Residence

The Connecticut Governor's Residence is a three-story Georgian Revival mansion located on Prospect Avenue in Hartford. The building contains nineteen rooms with nine fireplaces and traditional design elements that reflect early 20th-century craftsmanship.

The property was built in 1909 as a private residence for a physician and served as an affluent family home. Connecticut acquired the building in 1943 and established it as the official Governor's residence.

The residence displays artworks and furnishings from Connecticut that represent the state's creative heritage through generations. Visitors can experience this connection between the building and local artistic traditions through the collections on display.

The residence opens for public tours during specific times, particularly around the holiday season. Checking availability in advance is recommended since the property hosts events that may affect visiting hours.

The original furnishing plan fell apart when legislators distributed furniture contracts across multiple towns. A local business owner ultimately purchased and installed all the furnishings that fill the residence today.
