Delmar Loop, Entertainment district in University City, Missouri
Delmar Loop is a commercial district in University City that runs along Delmar Boulevard with restaurants, music venues, theaters, and shops creating a continuous entertainment corridor. The area spans multiple blocks with mixed-use buildings that combine ground-floor retail and dining with upper-level spaces.
The neighborhood takes its name from a streetcar turnaround built in the early 1900s that connected St. Louis to its expanding suburbs. This original transportation hub gradually transformed into the commercial center that exists today.
The Walk of Fame plaques set into the sidewalks celebrate local musicians and artists who shaped the region's sound. These brass markers are embedded throughout the streets, creating a self-guided tour of the area's musical legacy.
The MetroLink Red Line station at the eastern end provides public transportation access, and multiple parking facilities are scattered throughout the district. The area is flat and walkable, making it easy to browse shops and visit different venues on foot.
Two lion sculptures have stood at the western boundary since the early 1900s, marking the entrance to University City Hall. These stone guardians often go unnoticed by visitors despite being prominently placed where the district begins.
