Eaton, Crane & Pike Company Factory, Paper factory complex in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, United States.
Eaton, Crane & Pike Company Factory is a complex of nine interconnected brick buildings in Pittsfield situated near the Housatonic River. The structures range from three to eight stories in height and are anchored by a central clocktower that rises above them.
The complex started in 1883 as Terry Clock Company manufacturing timepieces, then shifted to paper production under different ownership. The transition to Eaton, Crane & Pike in 1908 established it as a major maker of fine writing paper.
The factory was the heartbeat of papermaking for generations, employing many local workers who shaped the region's economy. Today visitors can sense how central it was to the community's daily life and identity.
The site now functions as a mixed-use development with residential units and light industrial operations near downtown Pittsfield. Its location by the river and proximity to the city center make it easy to reach and explore.
The central clocktower with its mansard roof and iron cresting topped by a flagpole dates back to the original 1883 construction. This distinctive feature remains one of the oldest elements on the entire site and gives the complex its recognizable character.
