Hebert Arboretum, Arboretum in Springside Park, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, United States.
Hebert Arboretum is a collection of about fifty native tree and shrub species mixed with wildflowers throughout the natural landscapes of Springside Park. Walking paths and hiking trails weave through the grounds, making it possible to move through the different sections and observe the plant life up close.
This arboretum was established in 1999 to carry out the vision of former Parks Superintendent Vincent Hebert. The land had previously been farmland and suburban homes before being transformed into this botanical space.
Students from Conway School of Landscape Design created the master plan, integrating educational features with nature conservation. This approach means the space functions as a meeting point between design practice and hands-on learning about plants.
The entrance is located at 874 North Street in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The trails are generally easy to walk and accessible to different abilities, so it is worth wearing comfortable shoes while exploring.
Silver maple trees line the old carriage drive near Springside House, where elm trees once stood in rows. These maples were planted after the original elms fell victim to disease.
