Elm Park is a residential neighborhood on Staten Island, New York, built around a community park situated directly across from Port Richmond High School. The surrounding blocks feature a mix of single-family and multi-family homes set along tree-lined streets.
The neighborhood was named in the 19th century after Dr. John T. Harrison, who chose the name based on the elm trees growing on his property at the time. Those trees shaped how the early settlement was known, and the name stayed long after the trees themselves were gone.
Many Polish-American families live in this part of Staten Island, and St. Adalbert's Church nearby serves as a regular gathering place for the community. This shared background gives the streets a recognizable local feel that visitors can notice in the shops and everyday rhythms of the area.
