Farmers National Bank

The Farmers National Bank building sits at the intersection of State Route 161 and Chillicothe Street with design elements from early commercial architecture built in 1902. Inside, a steel cage with bulletproof glass protects the vault area.

The financial institution opened in 1900 and received federal deposit insurance protection in 1934. It changed hands several times later, including becoming Citizens National Bank in 1993.

The lobby displays oil portraits of the bank's founder and a long-serving employee whose faces represent the trust that local customers placed in this institution. These images show who shaped the bank's reputation over time.

The building sits prominently on a main street intersection in Plain City, making it easy to locate and observe from the street. Keep in mind that this is an active bank facility, so visiting is best done by viewing the exterior and interior details during regular business hours if access permits.

The building kept two 38-caliber revolvers behind the counter until 1993, a detail that reflects the security culture of banks from that era. This choice shows how differently financial institutions approached safety in earlier times.
