Evangola State Park, State park on Lake Erie shore in Irving, US
Evangola State Park is a 733-acre park on Lake Erie's shore featuring natural sand beaches, Angola shale cliffs, and forest areas. The space combines different landscape types in one continuous waterfront setting.
The park was established in 1954 to provide recreation for Erie County residents and protect the natural shoreline. Its creation reflected the need to preserve this coastal area during a period of development.
The nature center runs educational programs about Lake Erie's ecosystems through activities like bird watching and marsh exploration. These experiences help visitors connect with the wildlife and natural systems that shape the shoreline.
The park offers 80 campsites open from April through October, plus five furnished yurts with electricity, refrigeration, and cooking appliances. Visitors should plan their stay based on seasonal availability and accommodation preferences.
During winter, ice formations develop along the shore when Lake Erie waves freeze into cone-like structures. These formations can reach several meters high and create an unusual seasonal landscape.
