Excelsior Amusement Park, Amusement park in Excelsior, Minnesota, United States
Excelsior Amusement Park was an amusement park along Lake Minnetonka featuring rides such as a wooden roller coaster, Ferris wheel, and bumper cars. The grounds extended along the waterfront and also offered boat rides on the lake.
The park opened on May 30, 1925, drawing 20,000 visitors on its first day. It operated through 48 consecutive summer seasons before closing in 1973.
The dance hall next to the park drew large crowds for live music performances between visits to the rides. It created a social gathering place where people could enjoy entertainment beyond just the amusement attractions.
The park had free admission, with visitors paying separately for individual rides and food. It operated seasonally from late May through early September.
A carousel from the park was saved after closure and now operates at Valleyfair Amusement Park in Shakopee. The Philadelphia Toboggan Company-built ride has survived and continues to function.
