Namangan Region, Administrative region in eastern Fergana Valley, Uzbekistan
Namangan Region spreads across the eastern part of the Fergana Valley and runs along the Syr Darya River. It borders Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and three other Uzbek regions, forming a significant part of this geographical area.
Severe earthquakes in the 17th century forced people from neighboring Shahristan-Ahsikent to move into this area. This migration laid the foundation for what would become the current regional capital.
The region is known for traditional craftsmanship that local artisans still practice in small workshops today. In Chust, knifemakers create blades recognized worldwide, while elsewhere craftspeople produce silk textiles using methods passed down through generations.
The area is best explored by visiting different locations and landscapes gradually across time. Travelers should prepare for varying weather conditions and use local routes to reach scattered villages and craft centers.
Beneath the ground lie substantial deposits of uranium, gold, diamonds, and silver that are extracted across several districts. These mineral resources shape the economic development and represent some of the region's most valuable assets.
