Kattaqo'rg'on Suv Ombori, reservoir in Uzbekistan

Kattaqo'rg'on Suv Ombori is a large reservoir built in a natural depression to store water for irrigation and flood control across surrounding farmlands. The structure consists of an earth and stone dam that has been reinforced and heightened several times to increase its capacity and serve approximately 94,000 hectares of agricultural land.

Construction began in the 1940s and was completed around 1951, making it the first dam of its kind in Uzbekistan and marking an important development in the region's irrigation infrastructure. The main dam was progressively reinforced and heightened to meet growing demands and improve water storage capacity.

The reservoir serves as an important gathering place for the local community, where farmers depend on water for their fields and fishermen regularly cast their lines. People view it as an integral part of their daily life rather than as a tourist destination, making it a working landscape woven into local routines.

The site is accessible from the nearby town of Kattaqo'rg'on and sits in open rural terrain with simple pathways and a quiet setting. Visitors should expect variable water levels depending on the season and rainy periods, as this is a working facility designed for agricultural needs rather than tourism.

The reservoir was created in a natural depression of the land rather than through extensive artificial excavation, which was a remarkable approach for its time in the region. This geographical advantage allowed engineers to build a large water storage system efficiently without the need for major earth-moving operations.
