Magok-i-Attari Mosque, Islamic mosque in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
The Magok-i-Attari Mosque features intricate geometric patterns made from carved bricks and terracotta tiles adorned with vegetation motifs on its facade.
Archaeological excavations revealed that the mosque was built in the 9th century on the site of a former Zoroastrian temple dedicated to the moon deity Makh.
The structure incorporates architectural elements from different periods, displaying the evolution of Central Asian religious architecture from pre-Islamic to Islamic times.
The mosque now functions as a carpet museum, exhibiting traditional Bukhara carpets from Turkmenistan, and welcomes visitors Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
The building sits 4 meters below ground level due to centuries of urban development, leading to its name Magok, which translates to pit in the local language.
