Playa Puerto Cruz, Beach and settlement on Margarita Island, Venezuela
Playa Puerto Cruz is a sandy beach on Margarita Island's northeastern coast with approximately 1 kilometer of shoreline meeting clear waters. The location is bordered by two hills, with a lighthouse standing on one of them.
The area served as a fishing outpost and trading point with nearby mainland ports for many years. A wooden observation tower once stood here until being completely destroyed by rough sea conditions in 2004.
Fishing communities along the beach maintain daily routines with traditional boats and fresh seafood that sustains the local food culture. The waterfront reflects how people here depend on and connect with the sea.
The beach is reachable from the mainland by ferry from several ports including Cumana, Puerto La Cruz, and Caracas. Water conditions are generally calm with moderate waves, making swimming comfortable throughout most of the year.
The lighthouse on the hill has served as a navigation marker for fishing boats and vessels approaching the coast for decades. Today it remains a visible landmark that helps orient visitors and marks the bay from afar.
