Thái Bình

Thái Bình is a provincial city situated in the Red River Delta region of northern Vietnam. It serves as the administrative center for the surrounding province and lies approximately 110 kilometers from Hanoi.

The area grew around Keo Pagoda, constructed in 1061 and still a significant landmark today. This region later became the birthplace of the Trần Dynasty, which ruled Vietnam from the 13th century onward.

The city holds deep ties to water puppetry, a traditional art form that originated in this region and remains visible during temple festivals and community celebrations. These performances reflect how local people connect with their heritage through theater and ritual.

You can reach the city easily by public bus from Hanoi, with regular service throughout the day taking about two hours. National Highways 1 and 10 connect the city to surrounding regions, making it convenient for travelers with vehicles.

The Tran Temple Festival takes place each year during the first lunar month and draws large crowds from the surrounding region. The celebration features traditional games and performances that honor the dynasty's legacy.
