Sacred Heart Cathedral of Thái Bình, Roman Catholic cathedral in Thái Bình, Vietnam
The Sacred Heart Cathedral is a Catholic church with white walls and twin bell towers at the front. The building combines European church architecture with local Vietnamese building elements into its own distinctive design.
The church was founded in 1936 as an apostolic vicariate and received the status of a Catholic diocese in 1960. This elevation made it the main center for the Catholic community in the northern region.
The cathedral connects 141,259 Catholics across 135 parishes in northern Vietnam, representing 4.3 percent of the regional population.
The building is easy to find since it is located centrally in the city and its white walls are visible from afar. Visitors can enter the church interior and study the architecture up close, especially the details of the inner spaces.
The building houses the My Duc Seminary since 2008, which trains priests for the diocese. This theological training center operates directly next to the church building and shapes activities on site.
