Hanoi Botanic Garden, Botanical garden in Ba Dinh district, Vietnam
Hanoi Botanic Garden is a botanical garden in Ba Dinh with numerous plant species spread across trails, fields, and lakes. The space includes coconut, palm, orchid, and banyan trees, along with wildlife such as squirrels and macaques that move freely through the grounds.
French colonial authorities established the garden in 1890, initially designed around colonial villas and spanning much larger grounds. The space was gradually reduced as the city developed and other construction projects took priority.
The collection features many plants native to Vietnam, allowing visitors to see how the country's natural diversity is rooted in these species. Walking through, you notice how these plants are organized to reflect Vietnam's regional ecosystems.
The garden opens throughout the day and features well-maintained trails that make it easy to explore. There are open fields, lakes, and a cafeteria where you can rest and get refreshments.
A Sua Tree more than a century old, belonging to the Fabaceae family, stands as the garden's most notable specimen. This ancient tree often goes unnoticed by visitors despite being a living record of the garden's botanical history.
