Camp Aguinaldo, military camp and headquarters of Armed Forces of the Philippines
Camp Aguinaldo is the main headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, located in Quezon City, Metro Manila, with administration buildings, barracks, and support facilities spread across a large compound. The site also houses the Department of National Defense, making it the central point for both civilian and military defense governance.
The camp was established in the 1940s by American forces and named after Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Philippines and a key figure in the struggle for independence. After Philippine independence, the site was taken over by the Philippine military and gradually grew into the country's main defense command center.
The compound is an active military base and is largely off-limits to the public, so visitors need prior authorization and must pass through security checks at the gate. Anyone with an official appointment should bring the required identification and arrive early to allow time for entry procedures.
Camp Aguinaldo played a direct role in the 1986 People Power Revolution, when a group of military officers defected here and announced their withdrawal of support from President Marcos. That act, broadcast live on radio, helped turn the tide of events that led to a peaceful transfer of power.
