Valpaços, Municipality in Vila Real District, Portugal
Valpaços is a municipality in northern Portugal situated on highland terrain between 700 and 800 meters in elevation. The territory spans roughly 548 square kilometers and divides into several smaller administrative parish sections.
The municipality was established as an independent administrative unit in 1836 when Portugal reorganized its district boundaries. This creation followed older settlement patterns that had existed since medieval times.
The parishes hold their own festivals where you experience regional music and local cooking traditions. These celebrations shape how communities come together throughout the year.
National roads connect this area to neighboring regions and make it easy to travel to Vila Real and toward the Spanish border. The road network allows you to visit the different parishes and smaller settlements comfortably.
The region has a mountain climate with hot summers and significant differences between seasons. Winters are cold and moist weather patterns bring rain, especially during the cooler months.
