Porto Cathedral, Cathedral in Porto, Portugal
The Porto Cathedral combines Romanesque architecture with two square towers, Gothic cloisters, and a grand Baroque silver altarpiece in its main chapel.
The construction started in the twelfth century under Bishop Hugo, with subsequent additions of Gothic elements and Baroque modifications until the eighteenth century.
The Gothic cloister walls display painted tiles depicting biblical scenes, while the baptistery contains a bronze relief showing the baptism of Christ.
The cathedral opens from 9:00 to 18:30 between April and October, and from 9:00 to 17:30 from November through March, with entrance fees for the cloister.
The marriage of King João I to Philippa of Lancaster took place in this cathedral in 1387, marking a significant alliance between Portugal and England.
