Muralha Primitiva

The Muralha Primitiva is an archaeological site and stone fortification that runs through Porto's historic district. The structure consists of several sections built with different types of stone and mortar patterns that reflect various construction periods.

The wall was built in the 11th century as a defensive structure for early Porto. It marked the boundaries of the urban center and evolved later through expansions and repairs that reflected changes in the city's growth.

The walls show different building phases and techniques that builders used over centuries. You can see how construction methods changed in different sections and what materials were available at that time.

The site is located in the Morro da Sé district and is reachable on foot, though many paths are steep. It helps to wear comfortable shoes and allow time for slow exploration.

Artifacts discovered beneath the walls show that people have lived here for hundreds of years. These finds help archaeologists understand how life in Porto changed from medieval times until today.
