Esteiro Beach

Esteiro Beach is a sand beach along the southwestern coast of Póvoa de Varzim with fine to medium grain and a broad expanse. A recovering dune system with grey vegetation borders the shoreline and protects the natural coastal environment.

The beach was shaped by coastal windmills in past centuries that defined the landscape and some structures remain standing today. These buildings show how people once used this coastal location for work and daily life.

The beach holds meaning in Portuguese literary circles because a known writer made her home here and drew inspiration from the seaside setting for her work. Visitors today can connect with this creative heritage while walking along the shore.

The beach is easy to reach through Rua António Santos or Avenida Jardim da Praia with clear pathways to the water. From mid-June through mid-September lifeguards are present to watch over swimmers and visitors.

A wooden boardwalk crosses the small tidal creek that names this location and protects the fragile dune area in the process. This path lets visitors explore the landscape without harming the delicate plants and ground.
