Convento, Colégio e Igreja dos Congregados, também denominado «da Congregação de São Filipe Néri», Religious complex in São José de São Lázaro, Portugal

The Congregados complex is a religious ensemble combining a church, convent, and college with baroque architectural style in Braga. The facade displays symmetrical proportions, ornate stone carvings, and was later enhanced with sculpted figures of saints, creating a unified visual statement about the site's purpose.

The complex was founded in the late 17th century when the Oratory Congregation accepted an invitation to establish itself in Braga. In the 19th century, following the dissolution of male religious orders, the building transformed into a repository for books and knowledge from nearby communities.

The complex is dedicated to Saint Philip Neri and his Oratory Congregation, a spiritual community focused on education and preaching. The spaces were designed to serve both devotional needs and teaching activities, reflecting how faith and learning intertwined in this place.

The site is centrally located in Braga and easily accessible on foot from main streets, with clear orientation points throughout. Visitors should allow time to explore both the exterior architecture and interior spaces, as the complex spans multiple areas and rooms worth seeing.

After the suppression of religious orders in 1834, the building housed Braga's public library, which gathered books rescued from roughly 20 surrounding convents. This transformation protected a vast collection of religious and secular texts from dispersal or loss.
