Casa-Museu Teixeira Lopes

Casa-Museu Teixeira Lopes is a 19th-century residence in Mafamude that functioned as a sculptor's workshop and now displays bronze, marble, and plaster sculptures. The rooms maintain their original arrangement of living and working spaces, allowing visitors to see the artworks within their creation context.

The building was designed in 1895 by architect José Teixeira Lopes and served sculptor António Teixeira Lopes as home and workshop until 1942. It reflects the artistic career of an important creator whose working life spanned a transition between two artistic periods.

The house displays the work of a major Portuguese sculptor and contains his personal collection within the original rooms where he created his pieces. Visitors can see how an artist from around 1900 worked and developed his craft in these same spaces.

The museum operates during weekday mornings and afternoons, with guided tours available to help visitors understand the artworks in context. The rooms are compact and intimate, so arriving early helps you move comfortably through the space without crowds.

The studio was intentionally left to reflect the artist's daily working methods, with tools and materials remaining in their original locations. This preservation allows visitors to directly experience the physical reality of artistic creation in the early 1900s.
