Situated in Praça do Comércio, Café Martinho da Arcada features traditional architecture with white walls, large windows, and an ornate facade facing the square.
Established in 1782 under the name Café do Gelo, the establishment supplied beverages and ice cream to the Portuguese royal court following the Great Earthquake.
Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa maintained a reserved table at the café, where he spent time writing and meeting with other literary figures.
The café serves traditional Portuguese dishes and operates Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, accepting both cash and card payments.
The café contains the original table where Fernando Pessoa consumed his final coffee with artist Almada Negreiros in November 1935.
