MUDE - Museu do Design e da Moda, Museum of design and fashion in Baixa, Portugal
MUDE is a design and fashion museum in Lisbon's central pedestrian zone, located inside a former bank building that was renovated for this purpose. The building spreads across eight floors and displays objects from the middle of the 1800s onward.
The museum began as a design collection in the 1990s before expanding and relocating to this central location in 2009. The move to the renovated bank building allowed the collection to grow significantly and reach a much larger audience.
The collection reveals how design and fashion shape the way people live and express themselves in their everyday lives. Objects on display show the choices and values that communities pass down through generations.
The museum is located in the pedestrian zone at the city center and is easy to reach from public transportation. Visitors should plan for at least two to three hours to walk through the exhibitions across the different floors.
The rooftop level includes a restaurant where visitors can see the castle and the city's triumphal arch while dining. This combination allows people to take a break from the galleries and enjoy views of Lisbon's landmarks.
