Casa de Santa Maria, Cascais, Historic residence on the coast of Cascais, Portugal

The Casa de Santa Maria features Mediterranean architecture with horseshoe-shaped arches, traditional Portuguese tiles, and terraces overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Jorge O'Neill, a Portuguese aristocrat of Irish descent, commissioned architect Raul Lino to build this residence for his daughter in 1902.

The interior displays 17th-century painted tiles and wooden ceilings rescued from an ancient chapel and convent in Lisbon.

The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a lunch break, and shares a combination ticket with Santa Marta Lighthouse.

European royalty, including the Dukes of Windsor and King Umberto II of Italy, found refuge in this residence after World War II.
