Casa das Histórias Paula Rego, Art museum in Cascais, Portugal.
Casa das Histórias Paula Rego is an art museum in Cascais featuring a striking red concrete exterior with two pyramid-shaped towers. The building connects several wings of varying heights that work together as one cohesive structure.
The museum opened in 2009 on the grounds of the former tennis courts of Sporting Club Cascais. Architect Eduardo Souto de Moura designed it specifically to house and honor the artist's body of work.
The building celebrates the artist Paula Rego, whose provocative works tell deeply personal stories through paint and printmaking. Walking through, you encounter a space dedicated to preserving her artistic voice and her connection to this country.
The museum is most easily reached from Cascais town center, located within an established cultural area. Plan to spend at least two hours to view the works at a comfortable pace.
The collection holds the largest grouping of the artist's works in one place, spanning paintings, etchings, and drawings. It also displays works by her late husband Victor Willing, documenting their shared artistic journey together.
