Edifício do Colégio dos Jesuítas

The Edifício do Colégio dos Jesuítas is a religious building in Portimão combining Mannerist and Baroque architectural styles. Its rectangular form features a symmetrical facade with a central entrance that opens toward the church section.

Construction started in 1660 under D. Diogo Gonçalves's leadership, and the complex opened as a Jesuit college in 1707. The 1755 earthquake caused severe damage and required substantial restoration of the main facade.

The Church of Saint Francis Xavier inside displays intricate gilded woodwork created by local craftsmen. This ornate interior reflects the place's role as a religious and cultural center for the community.
