Church on the Hill is a church building on the highest point of Sighișoara in Romania with Gothic architecture and stone elements. The interior features wooden pews and wall paintings that document different time periods.
Construction began in the first half of the 15th century and was originally intended for Catholic worship. After 1547, its use changed when the local population converted to Protestant faith.
The walls inside display painted scenes from medieval times showing religious figures and biblical moments. These images show how different generations used this space as a place for prayer and worship.
Access is reached via a covered stairway with 176 steps or along the road beside the school. The site sits about 429 meters in elevation and is reachable on foot.
The structure houses a rare ancient stone crypt that served as a burial chamber. This underground structure was used for burials until the 1990s.
