Grgeteg monastery

Grgeteg Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery set in the Fruška Gora mountains with a central church building surrounded by residential structures on all four sides. The complex displays baroque architectural features from the 1770s with carefully designed facades and a structured courtyard layout.

The earliest written records of the monastery date to 1545, though local traditions speak of its founding by Despot Vuk Grgurević in 1471. The buildings in their current form took shape during the 18th century and have defined the site's appearance to this day.

The iconostasis inside the church tells the story of different artistic periods through its paintings and decorative elements. Uroš Predić repainted it in 1902, adding his own style to what had been created more than a century before.

The monastery is accessible to visitors interested in religious history and architecture, located in the Fruška Gora region. It is advisable to check visiting times in advance and approach the site respectfully, as it remains an active place of worship.
