Grave of Branko Radičević in Stražilovo, Monument obelisk in Stražilovo, Serbia.
This tall stone obelisk marks the final resting place of poet Branko Radičević on a hillside within Fruška Gora, topped with a cross and located near Sremski Karlovci. The monument stands in the national park and can be reached through marked walking paths.
The poet died in Vienna in 1853, yet his remains were not brought to Stražilovo until 1885. The obelisk was built that same year by artist Petar Kituzi to create a lasting memorial at this location.
The inscription at the top reads "Branku - Serbian people" and honors the poet's importance to national literature. Stone from different regions of Serbia was used in its construction, linking various parts of the country through this memorial.
The site is accessible through marked paths in Fruška Gora National Park and sits on a hillside, requiring a short walk to reach. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended as the location is somewhat remote and paths can vary in condition.
The original tombstone from Vienna is embedded at the base of the obelisk, containing inscriptions about the poet's life and his death at age twenty-nine. This piece of stone connects the two places where he lived and died.
