Krušedol monastery, Serbian Orthodox monastery in Krušedol Selo, Serbia.
Krušedol monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery on the slope of Fruška Gora in Serbia, known for its architecture and burial sites. The buildings show elements from different periods, with a rectangular layout and towers modified through later reconstruction work.
Maksim Branković and Angelina of Serbia founded the monastery between 1509 and 1514 after their family lost political power. In the 18th century it became the seat of a metropolitanate and underwent several reconstructions following damage from wars and fires.
The name comes from the word for pear tree, recalling the orchards that once surrounded the area. Today believers come here to pray before the relics and light candles, while visitors examine the painted scenes on the interior walls.
The path to the monastery runs through wooded terrain and is manageable for most visitors. It is best to plan a visit in the morning when the light illuminates the wall paintings inside well.
On the east wall above a window, a sundial marks the hours from 6 to 17. This instrument still serves as a timekeeper for the monks and visitors who follow the daily rhythm in the monastery.
