Myakinino, Metro station in Kuntsevo District, Moscow, Russia
Myakinino is a metro station on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line in Krasnogorsk, just outside the Moscow city boundary, built at ground level. It has two tracks with side platforms and sits between Volokolamskaya and Strogino stations along the line.
The station opened on December 26, 2009, as part of an extension of the metro line toward Mitino. At that time, it was the first station built beyond the then-existing Moscow city limits.
The name Myakinino comes from an old village that once stood in this area, now surrounded by shopping malls and exhibition halls. Stepping out of the station, visitors find themselves in a landscape that has changed completely from its rural origins.
The station is at street level, so there are no stairs or long escalators to deal with when entering or leaving. During major events at nearby exhibition grounds, the platforms and surrounding areas can get very crowded.
Myakinino was the first Moscow metro project built through a partnership between a private company and the public sector. This approach was new in Russia at the time and later served as a reference for other infrastructure projects in the country.
