Bolshekhekhtsirsky Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Khabarovsk Krai, Russia
The protected area encompasses 45,439 hectares of taiga forests, rivers, and wetlands along the Ussuri River near the Russian border.
The reserve received its protected status on October 3, 1963, following recommendations from scientist A.S. Khometovsky and naturalist V.P. Sysoev.
The name of the reserve originates from the Bolshoi Khekhtsir mountain range, which according to regional tales was named after a local shaman Kheekhchir.
The reserve contains multiple hiking trails in designated zones and maintains a natural history museum that presents exhibitions about local ecosystems.
A small population of Amur tigers maintains permanent residence in the reserve, despite its proximity to the urban area of Khabarovsk.
