Butyrskaya, Underground metro station in Butyrsky District, Moscow, Russia
Butyrskaya is an underground metro station in the Butyrsky District of northern Moscow, built on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line with a single island platform between two tracks. It sits deep below street level, serving the residential neighborhoods that surround it.
The station opened on September 16, 2016 as part of a northward extension of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line. It was among the first stops to bring metro access to newly developed housing areas in that part of the city.
The architectural design by Nikolay Shumakov and Vladimir Filippov represents the continued evolution of Moscow's metro station construction principles.
The entrance sits at street level in a residential area that is easy to navigate on foot. Because the station is deep underground, the escalator rides are long, so allow a little extra time when transferring.
Butyrskaya is notably deeper than most metro stations built in Moscow in recent decades, which tend to sit closer to the surface. The long escalator descent has become a familiar part of the daily routine for people who use this stop regularly.
