The monument was unveiled in May 2010 to mark the 115th birthday of writer Ivan Vasilenko. Since its installation, it has served as a tribute to the local author and his literary legacy.
The statue represents a character created by Vasilenko and reflects how the city honors its literary heritage in public spaces. Visitors can see how locals connect with the region's writing traditions through everyday monuments dedicated to fictional figures.
The monument is located on Chekhov Street at the center of Taganrog, right next to the Vasilenko House Museum. It is easily accessible on foot and makes for a natural stop when exploring the city's literary sites.
The sculpture has survived significant damage, including being toppled in September 2010 and removed from its pedestal in August 2012. Despite these incidents, it was restored and remains standing today at its original location.
