Perm Theological Seminary, Religious educational institution in Perm, Russia
Perm Theological Seminary is a Russian Orthodox training institution located in the center of Perm, Russia. The main building features a classicist facade and houses classrooms, a chapel, and residential areas for students.
The seminary was founded in 1800 and trained Orthodox clergy for over a century before closing in 1919 following Soviet policies toward religion. It reopened in 2009 and resumed its role as a place of religious formation.
The seminary sits in the heart of Perm and is one of the few places in the city where religious life, study, and prayer visibly coexist today. Passing by, visitors can notice students using the courtyard and get a sense of the daily rhythm of a working Orthodox institution.
The seminary is in the city center and easy to reach on foot from other downtown landmarks. Since it is still an active institution, it is worth checking in advance whether the building is open to visitors.
During the Soviet period, the building was repurposed but never demolished, which is relatively rare for religious buildings in this region. This is one of the few places in Perm where the original function of a pre-revolutionary structure has been fully restored.
