Rohacki Koń, Mountain peak in Western Tatras, Slovakia
Rohacki Kon is a peak in the Western Tatras with steep granite cliffs rising on both sides of its ridge and creating exposed sections. The route features several technically demanding passages, including a granite slab section that requires climbing skills and careful movement.
The peak was first summited in winter by mountaineer Mariusz Zaruski in 1912, marking a significant milestone in Tatra exploration. This early winter ascent demonstrated the technical capabilities of climbers during that era.
This peak is home to alpine marmots and chamois that inhabit the surrounding valleys and slopes. Visitors can observe these animals in their natural habitat, particularly during early morning hours.
Access to the peak is closed from November to May due to dangerous conditions and snow coverage on steep terrain. During summer months, fixed chains and anchors along the exposed sections assist climbers navigating the route.
A granite slab section requires an exposed traverse that demands solid technique to complete safely. This brief but challenging passage ranks among the most technical sections in the entire mountain range.
