Nangbeto Dam, Embankment dam in Plateaux Region, Togo.

Nangbeto Dam is an embankment structure that crosses the Mono River and creates a large reservoir behind it. The installation includes a power station designed to generate electricity from the water flow.

This dam was built in the 1980s with international funding and became an important infrastructure project for the region. Its completion marked a major step toward providing electricity to multiple countries in West Africa.

The reservoir created by the dam has become a working landscape for fishing communities who depend on its waters for their livelihoods. Local people have adapted their daily practices to the presence of this large body of water in ways that shape how the region functions today.

The dam is located where the Mono River is easily accessible, and there are paths to view the structure from outside. Visitors should know that the surrounding area is rural and on-site access and facilities may be limited.

The facility underwent a major modernization of its turbine equipment decades after its initial construction. This overhaul showed that the infrastructure continues to play a strategic role in powering the region.
