Bua Yai, Administrative district in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
Bua Yai is an administrative district in Nakhon Ratchasima province covering a rural area with ten sub-districts and numerous villages. The district office located in Ban Fat Fueay serves communities including Huai Yang, Sema Yai, and Don Tanin.
The area began as a frontier settlement called Dan Nok and underwent major administrative reorganization in 1868. The center relocated to Ban Bua Yai in 1905, establishing the district as it exists today.
The name comes from the Thai word for "big lotus," a flower that holds spiritual meaning for local communities. This reverence appears in how residents interact with their landscape and local traditions.
The best time to visit is during the cool season when temperatures are moderate and roads are in good condition. The terrain is relatively flat and easy to navigate, making it accessible for different types of visitors.
About three kilometers from Ban Bua Yai, a railway junction was constructed that transformed this rural area into a transportation hub. This rail connection changed the economic life of the region and its link to other parts of the province.
