Description
Rayong is an administrative province in Eastern Thailand that extends along the Gulf of Thailand. The coast offers sandy beaches, tropical islands, and eight districts with a major industrial zone.
History
General Phaya Tak established a naval base here during the Ayutthaya period before becoming King Taksin of the Thonburi Kingdom. This military base later served as a springboard for his power.
Culture
The name comes from a tree in the Chong language, the Pterocarpus macrocarpus, which grows in this region. Fishing communities here maintain their way of life and use traditional methods along the coast.

Coastal areas are well connected by roads, while some islands are accessible by boats. Industrial zones concentrate in specific districts, while beaches and villages lie in other parts.
