Kandıra

Kandıra is an administrative district in Kocaeli Province with varied terrain featuring agricultural land and forested areas. The coastline includes several beaches such as Pınarlı, Bağırganlı, Seyrek, and Kerpe spread across approximately 52 kilometers.

The place was formerly known as Kéndri or Kándora and has a long past as a settlement. A significant development was the establishment of a state hospital in 1949, which transformed medical care for the population.

The area is shaped by different villages, each maintaining its own local traditions and regularly hosting community gatherings. These events show how residents express their connection to the land and to one another.

Kefken Island near Cebeci village preserves fortress walls from the Genoese period and ancient wells left by earlier civilizations. These remains tell of the place's strategic importance in earlier times.
