Orhan Mosque, Ottoman mosque in central Adapazarı, Turkey.
Orhan Mosque is a rectangular stone building in Adapazarı with a wooden roof covered in tiles. The structure incorporates traditional Ottoman architectural elements and sits within a landscaped courtyard that opens to the surrounding urban area.
The building was constructed in 1316, making it one of the oldest structures in Adapazarı. Major renovations took place between 1893 and 1894 under the direction of governor Mehmet Nüzhet Pasha.
This mosque serves as a gathering place for the community in Adapazarı and has been central to local spiritual life for centuries. It represents the religious foundation around which the city developed when the settlement was much smaller.
The mosque is easily reached from the town center through the main plaza in front of the building. Visitors should be aware that prayer times may limit access and respectful clothing is expected when entering.
The minaret was rebuilt following the 1967 earthquake and reinforced again after the 1999 earthquake struck the region. These repeated reconstructions show how the structure has adapted to survive natural disasters in an area prone to seismic activity.
