The Museum of Turkish Calligraphy Art exhibits 3121 pieces of Islamic calligraphic works, including hand-written Korans, sultan signatures, and detailed miniatures.
The museum building started as a madrasa in 1505, commissioned by Sultan Bayezid II, and transformed into the Writing Museum in 1968.
The collection demonstrates the evolution of Turkish calligraphy through different periods, displaying traditional scripts that have decorated manuscripts for centuries.
Located at Ordu Cad. No:21 in Fatih district, the museum remains closed since 2015 due to extensive restoration work.
The museum contains stone and glass works that showcase how calligraphic art extended beyond paper to different materials in Turkish culture.
