Museum of Turkish Calligraphy Art

Museum of Turkish Calligraphy Art, Historical calligraphy museum in Beyazıt Square, Fatih, Turkey.

The Museum of Turkish Calligraphy Art displays over 3000 Islamic calligraphic works, including hand-written Korans, sultan signatures, and detailed miniatures. This collection spans various writing styles and artistic techniques from different periods.

The building started as a madrasa in 1505 under Sultan Bayezid II and was transformed into a writing museum in 1968. This conversion preserved the historic structure while giving it a new purpose as a cultural institution.

The collection shows writing styles that decorated manuscripts over centuries and reflect different periods of Turkish calligraphic art. Visitors can see how this skilled form of writing developed through the displayed pieces.

The venue is located in the Fatih area near Beyazit Square and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should be aware that it has been closed for restoration work since 2015.

The collection extends beyond written works to stone and glass pieces that show how calligraphic art decorated various materials in Turkish culture. This expansion into other media reveals that written art was not limited to paper alone.
