Wenchang Temple, Xinzhuang, Chinese temple in Xinzhuang District, Taiwan

Wenchang Temple is a Chinese temple in Xinzhuang with traditional architecture organized into three sections: an entrance hall, a worship hall, and a main sanctuary. These interconnected spaces follow a classical design that guides visitors naturally through the religious space.

The temple was founded in 1813 and relocated to its present location along the Dakekan River in 1875 with support from local scholars. This move marked a significant moment in the establishment of the temple as a permanent community landmark.

This temple honors Wenchang Dijun, the deity of literature and education, and attracts students and scholars who come to pray for academic success. The devotion to this figure shows how deeply learning and intellectual achievement are valued in the local community.

The temple is located in Wende Village and welcomes visitors during regular opening hours throughout the year. It helps to check visiting hours in advance to ensure you can enter when you plan to visit.

During the Japanese colonial period, the temple served in 1898 as the New Taipei branch of the National Language Training Institute. This surprising role shows how the building participated in a different chapter of the region's history.
