Fangyuan Lighthouse

Fangyuan Lighthouse is an octagonal concrete tower standing 37.4 meters tall with distinctive black and white vertical stripes and a white lantern crowning the top. Two balconies at different heights wrap around the structure, serving as maintenance access points and vantage spots for inspections.

The Maritime and Port Bureau built this navigation tower in 1983 to support growing maritime activities along Taiwan's western coastline. Its construction reflected the region's expanding shipping routes and the need for improved navigational safety.

The lighthouse serves as a navigational landmark for fishing communities who continue their traditional practices in Wanggong Port and surrounding waters. For local fishers, it remains a daily visual reference tied to generations of maritime work.

The site is located near Wanggong Port and is best visited during daylight to see the structural details clearly. Visitors should expect strong coastal winds and salt spray, which are typical conditions at this waterfront location.

The beacon flashes every 10 seconds with an intensity of 28,000 candelas and is visible to vessels within approximately 16.6 nautical miles offshore. This long-distance visibility makes it a dependable navigation aid for ships traveling along the coast.
