Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park, Urban nature park in Nanzih District and Ciaotou District, Taiwan
Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park spreads across 35 hectares with grasslands, forests, and walking paths connecting different areas. The site includes a swimming pool, ecological exhibition room, parent-child play areas, and a library for visitors to use.
The park was created from a former landfill site that was transformed by the Executive Yuan into a public green space. This conversion made the land serve the community as a place for nature conservation and recreation.
The park centers around the Golden Rooster Sundial, a bronze sculpture that casts shadows on the ground to mark the time of day. This artwork draws visitors to gather and observe how natural light interacts with the sculpture throughout their visit.
The park is accessible from Metropolitan Park Station, making it easy to reach by public transport. Plan time to walk through different sections and enjoy the various facilities at your own pace.
Much of the park is dominated by the Taiwan Sugar Qingpu Plantation, which creates dense vegetation and green coverage. This former agricultural site gives the park its wooded character and lush appearance.
