Chang Gung Medical Foundation operates a network of hospitals with more than 10,000 beds spread across Taiwan, serving several million patients each year. The main building in Taipei offers a wide range of medical services under one roof.
Wang Yung-ching founded the foundation in March 1973 and named it after his father Wang Chang-gung. The first hospital opened its doors in 1976 in Taipei, laying the groundwork for what would later become a nationwide network.
The foundation takes its name Chang Gung from the founder's father, creating a personal link to the Wang family business legacy. Patients and visitors walking through the corridors experience a modern hospital with an international character, where foreign doctors also complete their training.
The facility is accessible via the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital metro station numbered A8, offering patients and visitors an easy route to arrive. Signage in multiple languages helps navigate through the sprawling building once inside.
The Proton and Radiation Therapy Center opened in 2015 as the first facility of its kind in Taiwan, enabling new paths in cancer treatment. Proton therapy differs from conventional radiation therapy in its ability to better spare healthy tissue.
