Taipei Arena, Multi-purpose sports venue in Songshan District, Taiwan
Taipei Arena is a multi-purpose venue in Songshan, a central district of the Taiwanese capital, with more than 15,000 seats and interchangeable flooring for basketball, ice hockey, and other sports. The hall extends over several floors and features a modern lighting system that can adapt to each event.
On this site stood the municipal baseball stadium of Taipei until 2000, which had opened in 1959 and served for decades as an important sports venue for the city. After the demolition of the old stadium, a new multi-purpose hall was built here until 2005, which has since been used for major events.
The building was designed to create a large, open hall with a continuous roof structure that allows events with many thousands of spectators. Concerts, sports games, and exhibitions use this flexible space, while the surrounding areas are filled with restaurants and shops.
The hall is located in the Songshan district and is easily accessible by metro, while wide entrances and staircases facilitate access for many people at the same time. In the basement, emergency power systems ensure that the equipment continues to function even during power outages and events can run without interruption.
Above the spectator seats hangs a huge LED screen since December 2006, which is called the Sky Screen and shows live footage from the hall as well as digital content. This display allows visitors to follow the action from different angles, even when they are seated far from the stage or playing field.
