Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, Cultural center in Xinyi District, Taiwan
Songshan Cultural and Creative Park is a cultural center in Xinyi District comprising multiple buildings with warehouses, a design museum, gardens, and an ecology pond. The grounds combine these different spaces into a unified area that merges creativity with natural surroundings.
The site operated as the Matsuyama Tobacco Plant from 1937 to 1998, functioning as a cigarette production facility. Its closure resulted from urban planning changes, after which the grounds were transformed into a cultural park.
The site hosts the Taiwan Design Museum, which regularly presents exhibitions on Taiwanese design trends and contemporary works. Visitors can engage here with local design traditions and modern creative practices.
The park sits near Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall metro station and is easy to reach. Outdoor spaces are free and open 24 hours daily, while indoor facilities operate during daytime hours.
The former machinery workshop has become a restaurant, while the original supervisory offices now house the Taiwan Design Museum. This repurposing shows how industrial structures have been given new life.
